Empowering Agriculture Through Innovation & Scale
SFPCL has recently initiated a range of impactful projects aimed at empowering farmers through better infrastructure, reduced input costs, and stronger market access. A cold storage and strawberry pulping facility is being set up to address perishability and ensure year-round availability to buyers in the food and pharma sectors. To support packaging needs, SFPCL has started manufacturing strawberry punnets, giving farmers access to affordable and locally made solutions.
Through a partnership with the Hydroponic Research Center, the company now produces and supplies its own pesticides and fungicides, significantly reducing costs for over 3,000 farmers across Maharashtra. These projects are especially focused on tribal and smallholder farmers, helping them boost income and build resilience. The company is also exploring strawberry wine production and agro-tourism to further diversify farmer income.
Transforming Farming with Infrastructure, Market Access & Technology
SFPCL began by organizing collective marketing of tomatoes and grapes produced by its member farmers. In 2014-15, 450 tons of tomatoes were sold to processors like Capricon Food Products and Varun Agro, earning farmers ₹10–15 more per crate compared to market prices.
Under the National Horticulture Mission, SFPCL established two pack houses and a Farmer Facility Center in the Vani cluster. Grading and sorting of grapes and tomatoes were conducted here, leading to higher value realization.
Between 2017–2020, SFPCL procured and transported over 2,500 MT of onions to cities like Chennai, Trichy, and Bangalore. In 2019, 50 MT of onions were exported to Italy as a trial, receiving positive feedback — laying the foundation for future export plans.
Driving Innovation for Long-Term Growth & Sustainability
Cold storage and pulping units are under development for strawberry, tomato, and grape — enabling value-addition and reduced waste.
With surplus fruit production, we plan to launch a strawberry wine facility — creating rural jobs and tapping into high-value product segments.
An upcoming mobile platform will provide crop advice, market rates, order tracking, and buyer connectivity directly to farmers' phones.
We plan to launch mobile and lab-based testing services for soil health, residue levels, and nutrient needs — improving productivity and compliance.
An agro-tourism project is in the works where tourists can experience strawberry farming and support local product sales and education.
